Where to Eat in Monterey

One of the perks of working at Secret Supper is traveling for a living. We host events all across the country, so we’re always exploring new cities and small towns. It’s no surprise that upon arriving in a new place, we are immediately hunting for the best spots to eat and drink. You’d be surprised how many stops we can make in a day! We’ll do almost anything to experience the soul of a place through it’s food and beverage — that’s why we started our very own Culinary Pursuits, after all

We spent this fall touring some of the county’s most prominent culinary locations during our Roca-Patrón Supper series, and we’re so excited to share our favorites with you! Our time in Monterey for Hive was a highlight of our adventures. This beautiful seaside town is full of fisherman’s charm, and a close-knit community of chefs who clearly love what they do, and work closely with local farms and fishermen to bring the best to their tables. You can taste the love at every link of the food chain here.

The charming community is about 120 miles south of San Francisco. With beautiful coastal scenery (check out the seals!), abundant wildlife, uncrowded beaches, and a myriad of outdoor activities this city offers something for everyone. The quaint downtown is lined with boutique stores, hotels, and restaurants leading to the waterfront, Cannery Row, and Fisherman’s Wharf. It’s perfect for a dreamy weekend stroll.

This locally owned specialty coffee shop in downtown Monterey hit the spot with their espresso. Just what we needed on our way out of town for a drive to Big Sur. We are biased to Portland coffee but Captain + Stoker sure served a fine cup!

Located in the historic Cooper Molera Adobe site, Alta occupies what was once the corner store of the adobe complex. All the scrumptious goods at this neighborhood bakery are made fresh in-house everyday. Absolutely worth a stop!

A local organic cafe and cannery. As a team of four, this was a perfect spot for a quick bite and a little something to bring home. Jams and pickles? Yes, please! We found the team pressing cider when we visited, such a fun way to meet them!

If you’re in or around the Monterey Bay Aquarium, check out their renowned restaurant. All ingredients are sourced from local farmers, ranchers, and fishermen who use environmentally responsible practices. All their seafood is caught or farmed in ways that don’t harm the ocean.

Organic, handcrafted ice cream handmade daily in small batches. We are in for anything that makes life sweeter and is made sustainably! Make sure you try their signature flavor “Bees Knees” which combines local Monterey honey, beeswax and bee pollen with organic custard and honeycomb candy. Also ask about their seasonal flavors. We maybe made multiple trips here during our visit…

A simple neighborhood bar off the beaten path in downtown Monterey, and a true favorite for locals and visitors alike. Their philosophy is “Get a good drink and have a good time.” We’re all for that, especially at places approved by locals!
