How to Spend a Summer Weekend in Portland, ME
A city by the sea, defined by its working waterfront and a proud but fading industrial history. A rocky peninsula packed with arts and culture, world-class cuisine, and a few kitchy gift shops for the cruise ship crowd.
It also happens to be our home.
Roots
January is decidedly not high season in Maine. The small towns along the coast are sleeping through the season’s short days and the weather forecast is anything but welcoming to outsiders. Mainers embrace the beauty of this time of year, though. They pull themselves out into the elements to enjoy every bit of the season, no matter what it brings.
Harvest
Everything about this Supper sung of peak season in the Northeast — from the pop of fresh cherry tomatoes to the sizzle of fresh oysters on the grill, the bright fresh flowers on the table to the colorful menu sourced almost completely from the farm, and the conversations that lingered long after the candles burned down. It was one of those lingering summer nights that nobody wants to end.
Alpine
From the smiling guests in Santa hats to alpine snacks to Chef Josh serving the table and the endless conversations and laughter throughout the night, we were simply delighted to be a part of such a wonderful evening to finish off our your of gathering. It was a joy to bring it home here, in our new home state of Maine!
Effervesce
We ended up back in the historic barn for Supper, with creamsicle-striped tablecloths and tiny flowers bubbling over the edges of their vases. We got to enjoy some spectacular views of the grounds (and the ocean nearby) while sipping on Delola Spritzes before gathering together for an amazing, locally-focused Supper paired with Suzor Wines. Despite all the changes, our original inspiration carried through to a wonderful evening — down to some incredible seafood towers based on Danielle’s inspiration board. The gathering was convivial and warm, a celebration of the beauty of springtime on the coast!
Komorebi
There’s a particular feeling — a calmness of body and mind — that is familiar to anyone who has found themselves in a quiet woods in the afternoon, when the sun slants through the tree canopy in syrupy bars that cloud the trail ahead in a glittering haze. The achingly short days of fall only enhance the moment. Those thick rays of sunlight break up the chill of the shadows with piercing bands of subtle warmth.
Harbour
We spent the whole summer daydreaming and planning until finally, in early September, we boarded a plane to the East Coast for our very first Supper in Maine. Our team of four landed on the other side of the country, full of excitement to press start on a Series that’d been months in the making!
